Microdermabrasion removes dead skin cells and Botox gets rid of wrinkles, but what can help sensitive skin? Many people suffer from sensitive skin problems, so let’s find out how to cope.
Use hypoallergenic skincare products
One of the best ways to deal with sensitive skin is to treat it with respect. Touch it gently and use hypoallergenic skincare products to avoid unwanted irritations. Avoid harsh chemicals and choose your cosmetics, cleansers and bath creams carefully. Everything that comes into contact with the skin can cause a reaction (depending on the severity of your condition), so it’s wise to test all new products on the back of your hand.
Moisturize
People with sensitive skin should moisturize to avoid discomfort. Dry skin can be extremely painful, so ensure you buy a gentle body butter or invest in a decent day cream. If you’re unsure what buy speak to your doctor or a skincare professional. They’ll advise you what works well with your skin type and should point you in the right direction. Stay away from products that contain perfumes, dyes or alcohol and always apply cream gently.
Avoid hot water
If you’ve got sensitive skin, avoid hot water as this can cause your skin to flare up. Use lukewarm water to clear your face and stay away from chemical soaps. Hot steam can also cause irritation, so don’t run a piping hot bath and stay out of steam rooms. Skip Jacuzzis and only book a facial if you know you can handle it.
Exfoliate carefully
Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells but it can severely irritate sensitive skin. Stay away from harsh exfoliation sponges and use only the softest of exfoliation products. Most people can exfoliate several times a week, but those with sensitive skin should only do it occasionally. Never exfoliate if your skin is sore and always moisturize afterwards.
Stay out of the sun
Hot weather can irritate sensitive skin, so make sure you stay as cool as possible. Cover up during the hottest parts of the day and always wear sun creams. Wear a moisturizer with a sun protection factor of at least 15 throughout the winter and wear a cap and sunglasses in the peak of summer. Sunshine can cause wrinkles.
Living with sensitive skin can at times be unpleasant, but there are ways to cope.
