Beauty Reads: Upgrade Your Mani With Homemade Nail Polish
What do you do when the nail color of your dreams does not exist? Thanks to Homemade Nail Polish, you create it yourself. Author Allison Rose Spiekermann, founder and creative director of Nail Pattern Boldness, an indie nail polish brand, created this book with to show readers how easy it is to create their own nail colors and designs using things you can find at the drugstore.
This 96 page book is packed with full color photos and step by step instructions to guide you to nail color bliss. The book is divided into four chapters which covers the ingredients commonly found in nail polish, equipment needed, recipes and techniques, and nail art ideas using handmade polishes.
Chapter three is a must read because there’s a recipe showing you how to create nail polish with eye shadow. I always knew you could use products like MAC pigments, but drugstore eyeshadows? I had no clue. In one recipe, she uses Revlon Diamond Lust in Plum Galaxy to create a gorgeous purple nail polish with a matte finish by mixing with a matte top coat.
My picks for must read sections: How to do nail art with gel pens, dotting tools with bobby pins and the galaxy nail tutorial.
This is the greatest book for someone that’s not new to polish, but new to mixing. Polish aficionados will find this book to be insanely boring because there’s nothing in here that they don’t already know.
Homemade Nail Polish retails for $16.95US, and $19.95CAN. It’s on sale right now for $12.24 Pick this book up on Amazon.com
