MAC Cosmetics set the standard for undertone confusion. I do not know how many times I have told someone ‘Oh you look like a NC40′ and I get the response ‘What?’ Because they do not know whether they are cool, warm, or neutral
Identifying and understanding your skin undertones are very beneficial for many reasons:
- Helps to identify the right color foundation (especially for MAC)
- Helps to find the right lip and eyeshadow colors
- Helps to find the right shade of haircolor (if you want to dye your hair)
- Helps to determine what colors of clothing suit you best
If you have warm undertones: Your veins appear green or have a yellow cast under the skin. Some of the skin tones associated with warm undertones are golden brown, honey colored, copper colored, beige, or a peachy shade. Eye colors associated with warm skin tones are brown, black, hazel or amber. Hair colors associated with warm skin tones are natural highlights of gold, red or orange when in the sun.
If you have cool undertones: Your veins appear blue under the skin. Eye colors associated with cool undertones are any shade of blue, green, grey or black. Cool skin tones cast a rosy, ebony, pink, or pale tone in the sun. hair colors associated with cool skin tones include blond or black. Another way to identify cool skin tones is the ability for cool skin to burn easily in the sun.
If you are neutral: Your veins are a mix of blue and green under the skin. Neutral toned skin can be brown, medium beige, or fair. The neutral toned person can have any shade of hair or eye color because they can pull off anything!
