This month, MAC Cosmetics is giving everyday girls and guys the chance to be the face of a cosmetics collection. The beauty brand is launching a contest for the face of their Fall 2011 makeup collection called “MAC Me Over.”
The competition is limited to the United States and will have a dedicated site,macmeover.com, where consumers can enter between November 15 and December 20. Contestants must be 18 or older and will be asked to submit a photo or video of themselves using the phrase “MAC me over because…” and completing it with “style, heart and soul,” said James Gager, creative director ofMAC Cosmetics worldwide, in an interview with WWD.
“People sometimes have the perception that you can only get crazy, intense makeup fromMAC,” said Gager. “But we can also give you the most flattering makeup possible. We wanted to showcase the versatility of the brand, and it sounded like fun to have lots of people tell us why they’d like a MAC makeover. We’re hoping we get entries which truly reflect our creed: all races, all ages, all sexes. This contest isn’t about who is the greatest looking – it is about who has the best style.”
Gager will oversee the judging process and MAC’s Facebook Fan Page will give real-time updates, countdowns and breaking news, with selected entries featured on macmeover.com. Six winners will be chosen and flown to New York City to be photographed for the ad campaign, with an image that will be showcased at MAC stores and counters worldwide. Winners will be announced in August 2011, said Gager, who hopes to make the contest an annual event.
