Spectrum Cosmetics (Also known as Sp3ctrum) is a small mineral cosmetics business that’s been around since 2008, according to the copyright information on the site. My knowledge of the brand is not great to be perfectly honest with you, but I read so many tweets about it being a great brand, and the pigments being so wonderful, I figured I would give it a shot.

When I deal with any small company, I always make small purchases first (nothing over $30), so that if things go sour, I wont be out of a huge loss. Pessimistic I know, but that’s just my rule. It saves me a lot of heartache and lost money.

So I ordered 9 pigment samples and them plus the cost of shipping totaled $16.00.  I ordered the samples on March 28 and they were shipped on April 13, so we can assume, because it is not specified anywhere on the site, that the turnaround time is 2-3 weeks? No big deal but I did…in my mind ask ‘why did they take so long’? The are just samples. But again, no big deal. small company.

So I get the package in the mail, well wrapped, protected, no problem there. So I’m missing one pigment… I read the invoice, says it’s on backorder. Considering the time that it took to get the first batch, I was confused. And why not email me that? What if I didn’t read the invoice and I threw it in the trash? So I wait one week, send an email- ‘Is this still backordered? Can you refund me instead? (yes it’s $1 and that’s not the point). Once week later, I get an email from them, saying that my order has been closed. Meaning that my total order was fulfilled. But wait? It wasn’t.

I don’t plan on making a big deal of it, I just figured I would drop a heads up and it makes me wonder if they do this with larger orders. Not to mention the poor communication. If I email you as a paying customer, at the least you or someone from your team should be kind enough to respond. As a consumer, if there’s one thing that you can do to guarantee that I never want your business again, it’s ignore emails.

I will probably post swatches of the shadows later, so stay tuned just in case you are interested.

To celebrate the release of The Amazing Spiderman in theaters July 3rd , OPI created a collection of lacquers based upon the theme of the movie. Here are some swatches and my thoughts on the collection after the cut!

My Boyfriend Scales Walls- white with a faint hint of blue. I can see the blue more so in the bottle than I can on the nails. It takes about three coats of this to be opaque.

OPI Just Spotted The Lizard- duochrome green with gold flashes. I heard this was a Chanel Peridot dupe but guess what? I never owned that shade. I refuse to go over $20 for certain things, and polish is one of them.

Your Web Or Mine? – Coral-ish pink. Reminds me of Come To Poppy from Nice Stems Collection, but  not as creamy. This has more of a frosty finish (HATE frosts)

Call me Gwen-Ever- it’s a dusty orange, not very vibrant and bright

Number One Nemesis- grayish-green with silver glitter. Again, I hear it’s a Chanel dupe but…

Into The Night- Medium metallic blue. Reminds me of Swimsuit, Nailed It!, But I think this one is a little deeper and reads a little more purple.

Last but not least is Shatter The Scales- Forrest green shatter with silver sparkles.

In conclusion- I don’t understand this collection. This collection is a prime example of a great idea with poor execution. There’s a peach, there’s a pink, a white, a blue, a green, a glitter all based around characters with no clear main idea. Yes, I get it, Spiderman, but maybe all the shades should have been themed around him and the villains, and not his girlfriend. I also understand that maybe it was done with way to appeal to women, but I promise a nice red lacquer focused on Spiderman and not the girl would never hurt a soul.

What colors do you think of when you think of Minnie Mouse? Well, OPI thought it would be a good idea to put Minnie back into the spotlight with a four shade collection of pinks and reds and one sheer glitter shade.

To be perfectly honest with you, I was not a Disney kid. *keep it real time* Mainly because when I was young, Disney was a premium channel and my parents wouldn’t order it, so I only caught it when they had free previews and it was just not enough to catch on full. I loved my Hello Kitty and I watched far more Nickelodeon (cause it came with the cable package *grumbles*.

I’m All Ears- Hot pink with blue and silver shimmer. Dare I say it’s a jelly finish? I want to say so but I’m not 100% sold on that. This color is a little darker than Butter London’s Disco Biscuit, and it’s also similar to OPI’s Be A Dhalia Wont You? This shade takes about two coats and applies smooth.

The Color Of Minnie- Bright red with shimmer. I spent a lot of time scratching my head because I just don’t think this is the color of Minnie. Minnie strikes me as a lover of all things pink!

Nothin’ Mousie Bout It- Clear polish with pink flecks and hearts. Believe it or not, I got a few hearts on every brush! This would go well as a topcoat. You can get at least one heart per nail, and you don’t have to glob tons of lacquer on to do it!

If You Moust You Moust- Oh haven’t we seen this color a lot this year? Crème finish deep bubble gum pink, similar to OPI Pink Friday, China Glaze Dance Baby, and Zoya KiKi.
