Let the record state that I have yet to find a mascara that gives me the volume that I am looking for. Most are mediocre at best, doing the bare minimum and being marketed as a miracle mascara. So I get this mascara and the first thing that stands out to me are the terms Power and Volume. So does L’Oreal exceed my expectations? Keep reading to find out, and to see photos!
Power Volume comes from the Voluminous line, and to be perfect honest with you, none of them ever did a thing for me. I think I gave up after Million Lashes, and decided that I wouldn’t waste my time anymore. I lied (I mean here we are….). L’Oreal markets this mascara to consumers under the premise that they will have big, bold lashes, that are waterproof and lasts up to 24 hours.
Who is up for 24 hours that needs to wear mascara?
Don’t answer that.
So first up is the brush. Taking a look at this brush I had to assume that I would get awesome definition and the one thing that we all want from our mascara- separated lashes. In addition, they state that the big brush deposits more mascara on the lashes which makes for faster application and more extreme results. I don’t agree. I didn’t get any more product using this wand than I do from any other. To be honest, smaller wands have always put more product on the wand. What I will say is, I prefer this bigger wand, because it puts less product on the wand, and that eliminates the risk of clumping and product buildup on the lashes.
As far as definition, I did get excellent definition and only one small clump after applying two coats.
Another claim for L’Oreal is the formula of the mascara. It contains collagen, so it’s supposed to keep the lashes plump and ensure that they do not deflate. Uhmm, I didn’t know that lashes deflate? So we will leave this conversation right here.
The formula of the foundation is not the best, it flakes a lot, and it’s very hard to wash off, even with waterproof makeup remover.
Here are the before and after photos:
Before- My lashes with nothing on them
After- I used two coats, as you can see it left a clump or two, but surely not as bad as some mascaras that I have used.
After- another shot and that one clump
L’Oreal Voluminous Power Volume Collagen Mascara retails for $7.95. You can find it at Walgreen’s, CVS, Rite Aid, a few grocery stores (Not the Kroger by my house), Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, and other mass retailers.
