Maybelline’s Dream Bouncy blush line is by far one of the best drugstore blushes you can buy for well pigmented, bright blushes. Maybelline Hot Tamale is a red based coral with a frost finish and a gel to powder texture. Too bad it’s not easy to use…..
Dream Bouncy blushes have a unique formula because they are gel to powder blushes formulated into this very cool and soft blob of gradually pigmented color. When you touch the blush it is very soft and pliable; it feels like a cream almost and when you apply to the skin, it dries to a very soft powder texture. If you didn’t know any better, you would think it’s a cream blush.
Application was tough depending on the medium- using the fingers picked up smallest product, and it applied very sheer to the skin unless you dug in with your fingers (which is not realistic, so I didn’t). Using a sponge applicator was better than the fingers, picking up more product and leaving deeper pigmentation on the skin. Using a stipple brush was by far the worst way to pick up color. While my bristles has color, my skin did not and the blush was so strong, it pulled a few fibers out of my brush (seriously WTF). My brush had a little lint on it, but after sweeping it across the blush, all the lint was on the blush and off the brush. I had the same experience with a blush brush as well. So in my opinion, to use this blush (and keep the surface of the blush clean) you have two choices- your fingers, or a sponge applicator.
Hot Tamale is buildable but beware with cream blushes- too much=caked on makeup and in addition if you have visible pores in your face, less is more.
While Hot Tamale is a pretty color, I refuse to go back to the make stone age and apply with my fingers. I am a mom on the go, and I don’t have time to scrape a blush with my fingers, apply it, then go struggle to get the blush off my fingers. Investing in sponge applicators is not realistic because they hold skin cells and germs.
Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes…. I guess I will see you next lifetime.
