Milani Cosmetics just revolutionized the drugstore eyeshadow, and you get to witness it.

New from Milani Cosmetics is the Bella Eyes Eyeshadow Collection ($3.99, 0.05 oz per shadow). It features 30 shades in a wide assortment of colors with a gel like texture that dries to a powder. This makes for better pigmentation, one swipe color payoff and easy blending. Check out what Milani has to say:

A gel powder – what would that even look like? We’ll tell you: It looks like rich, vibrant color that glides on in a single stroke, delivering a stunning multi-dimensional effect. What makes it a gel powder? Well, the formula starts as a gel and then is transformed by a special process into a stunning powder eye shadow with pure color and power wear.

While this is not the first gel powder product on the market, it is very affordable compared to Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Gelee Powder Eyeshadow ($24, 0.03 oz per shadow) that touts the same gel to powder eyeshadow formula. They are the only other brand that sells an eyeshadow with this formula that I could find.

Now it’s time to take a look at the swatches, and read my overall thoughts. I have broken the colors down by general groups.

Overall thoughts

Milani came through with another hit! The last time we got an eyeshadow collection from Milani, it was the Powder Eyeshadows back in 2012 and they were really a mix of high and low quality eyeshadows. Milani Bella Eyes is 100% quality. There are a few shadows in the collection that did not do so well: Bella Fuchsia, Bella Chiffon, Bella Cappuccino, and Bella Caffe, but using them wet or with a primer will take care of that problem.

All shadows applied with a silky smooth texture making the pigmentation intense and easy to apply. The shadows blend with ease, no complaints there. I have not used all the shadows on my lid personally, but the ones that I have used do not crease.

So are they really one stroke? Well that depends on a few things. Some shades, listed above, do not do the job in one stroke. They do not do well with one stroke wet or with the assistance of a primer. You have to swipe them more than once to get a good dose of pigmentation. The rest of the colors do. And they only get better with primer and/or wet application.

How do they perform wet? Excellent. I used MAC Fix+ Spray, dampened my brush and swiped them. The colors payoff well and they are more intense.

The shadows from the Milani Bella Eyes Collection retail for $3.99 each (yeah really, these are $3.99). They are available in two places only- CVS and Milanicosmetics.com
